Artist
Nunzia Picciallo is an award-winning multidisciplinary artist, performer, and facilitator active in international contexts.
They develop an artistic practice that investigates the power structures that permeate corporeality and subjectivity, activating the body as a political device for analysis, deconstruction, and transformation. With a transdisciplinary approach, their work spans performance, dance, visual arts, and sound, generating a critical perspective beyond representation. Nunzia’s creations have been presented across various spaces in Italy, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Ukraine, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Canary Islands, Mexico, Panama, and the United States.
With the performances W am I and Lemmy B., they have received multiple awards and recognitions, including Performance Award at the 27th International Solo Tanz-Theater Festival in Stuttgart, Residanza Award – The House of New Choreography, Masdanza Award, SAI Festival Award, Choreographic Writing Encouragement Award – Cortoindanza, Special Prize Movin’Up IN.
Nunzia’s work has been selected by various platforms and programs, including Boarding Pass Plus, Progetto CURA, Movin’Up GAi, Collagene – DAS Bologna, Twain_direzioniAltre Prize, Biennale MArteLive, CosiDanza, Stray Birds Dance Platform, Piattaforma G - Did Studio, and the Young Author Dance Showcase – Anticorpi XL Network, DNAppunti coreografici by RomaEuropa Festival.
Currently, Nunzia is in the research and creation phase of a new performance titled HORIZON.
Nunzia has been invited to choreograph and create a work with a group of dancers by Contemporary ACT, Flyout Transition Company, Dance Italia, RIDA program.
Alongside their performance work, Nunzia develops a practice in abstract painting. Their works have been exhibited in collective shows at Cie Résonance (FR), Fondazione E.P. Santomasi, Atelier Montez, Galleria Extra Factory (IT), and the Copelouzos Family Art Museum (GR). Their experimental video RED was a finalist at the Biennale MArteLive, The Next Short Film Festival, and Sottovenere, among others.
In many of their projects, Nunzia also creates the sound design, starting from a conceptual framework that informs the entire creative process.
In parallel with their artistic work, they are engaged in facilitation, leading movement workshops that bring together dance professionals and individuals from diverse backgrounds and abilities. They have been invited as a guest teacher by numerous institutions and festivals, including La Biennale di Venezia, Taiwan National University of Arts, University of Panama City, Gallim Dance Company, Milkshake Project Paris, Marameo and Dock 11 Berlin, SceneKunst, Compagnia Balletto di Roma, Da.Re. Dance Research, Prospettiva Danza Teatro, RIDA Program, Opificio in Movimento, International Creative Hub, among others.
Nunzia trained in dance at the Dance Arts Faculty, Sadna Ga’aton, the research collective LaCollectiz, and deepened their study of the Gaga Movement Language, receiving the certification as a teacher.
As a performer, they have worked with international artists including Lilach Livne, Alex Mitutziu, Danièle Desnoyer, Federica Rossellini for La Biennale Teatro, Enzo Cosimi, Omer Krieger, Clara Delorme, Penthouss.
Since 2022, they have focused their practice on research, exploration, and the development of original works.
